This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Living Rock - the mission that does amazing work with street youth in Hamilton. I found out about Living Rock early in 2008 while photographing my "Hamilton 365" project, and I've been going there for their Wednesday "gathering" ever since.
Being a front-line social worker is a very stressful job. The career life for the "average" social worker is just 2 years, before they suffer from burn-out. So reaching the 25th milestone is remarkable.
To commemorate this achievement, Living Rock have created a T-shirt that is available to the public for just $10. All of the proceeds from the sales go towards supporting programs for the youth at Living Rock, and the goal is to sell 1000 of them. I have volunteered to create a series of portraits of local celebrities modeling the t-shirts as a means to encourage all of us to chip in.
The artistic challenge I have for the series is that all the models will be shot in the Living Rock T-shirt, obviously, but also I will use the same lighting setup and backdrop in each case. Therefore the only thing that will differentiate each model will be the prop that they bring to the set.
